Sweeney Todd? Rent?
I know that Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is considered a musical, and that is still in theaters.
There have been others too, Newsies, some say that The Nightmare Before Christmas was a musical, or Moulin Rouge!. Also the Lion King, Aladdin, as well as some of the other Disney animated movies (Beauty and the Beast, etc).
They are out there, just not like they used to be.
Other than that, musicals just are not as popular these days I guess… They don’t make em like they used to! Wizard of Oz is one of the best movies of all time, along with another musical: Mary Poppins.
high school musical took over.
Evita, Chicago.
There aren’t as many musicals as there used to be, but there have been in few in recent years that were pretty big hits at the box office:
Evita
Rent
Chicago
Moulin Rouge
