Do musicals like Wicked, Legally Blonde, etc. ever hold open casting calls?

Nobody’s only on stage for 5 minutes with no lines. If you’re cast in the ensemble, you’ll probably get more stage time then the main leads and you’ll probably get more lines too, but you’ll always be in the background with the rest of the chorus.

With that being said, yes there’s always open casting calls. Check playbill.com or the Equity website.

yes, they have open Equity calls for replacements. The do this because of Equity rules though and most of the leads do get cast from private auditions set up with agents.

Even the ensemble has to go through this process and even ensemble actors are tremendously talented and just working up the ranks to principals. It’s no easy feat in the slightest to be on Broadway, in any capacity.

Check for casting calls.
